Girl born with 8 limbs undergoes surgery.

ABC News:

Doctors began operating Tuesday on a 2-year-old girl born with four arms and four legs in an extensive surgery that they hope will leave the girl with a normal body, a hospital official said.

The girl named Lakshmi is joined to a “parasitic twin” that stopped developing in the mother’s womb. The surviving fetus absorbed the limbs, kidneys and other body parts of the undeveloped fetus.

I can’t imagine what this might be like for the little girl or her parents.  It’s at once horrifying and tragic, and it’s amazing that a surgery will leave her with a normal body.

(Keep the spider jokes to yourself.  And don’t pretend you’re not thinking them, because you are.)

Don’t be so arrogant as to presume EVERYONE has the same thoughts as YOU! :(
    THAT’s offensive.

(That said, I was thinking “Kali” and NOT as a “joke”.)

Yay! Great to see cosmetic surgery being put to good use for a change! I can now see justification for cosmetic surgeons’ existence.

Seriously, my hope and best wishes go to little Lakshmi, if there is a God, may he bless her little heart.

My classmate once had a case… a boy with only one eye, his nostrils was on his forehead and had a hydrocephalus. It only lived for 2 hours. We hushed it inside the hospital.

Interesting that her parents chose to embrace her physical difference…
Lakshmi or Mahalakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, love and beauty, the lotus flower and fertility. Physically, goddess Lakshmi is described as a fair lady, with four arms, seated on a lotus, dressed in fine garments and precious jewels. Her expression is always calm and loving. The most striking feature of the iconography of Lakshmi is her persistent association with the lotus. The meaning of the lotus in relation to Shri-Lakshmi refers to purity and spiritual power. Rooted in the mud but blossoming above the water, completely uncontaminated by the mud, the lotus represents spiritual perfection and authority.

As a medical student, I once saw a baby delivered to a woman with two vaginas and vulvas. You know, double your pleasure, double your fun!

Lets pray her surgery is successful.

i hate seeing children in this kind of state, but i suppose some things can not be prevented, i have a daughter myself, a mothrs intuition is to better her children/child,and prepare them for the future, forget the past, fix the present and plan for the future, to baby, hope your operation goes well for you, our prayers and thoughts are with you, may the Love of God be upon you and your family in this time of need…

    With love and adoration
    SSaliahn and Andrew

AND THIS IS TO THAT BILL GUY, OBVIOUSLY SOMEONE LIKE WOULD BE THE TYPE OF PERSON WHOM HAS NEVER BEEN LAID BEFORE, HOPE THE BLOW UP DOLL WORKS FOR YOU, WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU, MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER ANOTHER OCCUPATION,BECAUSE JUDGING ON YOUR COMMENT YOU AS A MEDICAL STUDENT WOULD ONLY END UP A PERVERT RATHER THAT THE PURPOSE AND REASON BEHIND BECOMING A MEDICAL STUDENT.

  • SteveP // November 8, 2007 at 3:25 pm

    saliahn,
    Thanks for your last comment!
I was going to, but then didn’t. I regret it.
It needed to be called out.

Just a joke guys. Chill Out. You two have anger issues and need a psychiatrist. I hope that you do not own any guns. That comment/joke was no reason for such mean and nasty comments which are far from the truth. It truly shows what type of people that you are. I hope that I am not the guy that accidentally pulls out in front of your car. I can see the nasty gestures and tailgating already.

Have a nice day! I just turned the other cheek. By the way, my office does $3 million in indigent work each year. How much do you self righteous people donate in time and money? Also, you know what they say if you can’t take a Joke!

    Peace out!

Although the remark from the ‘Bill guy’ may appear insensitive or inappropriate, he states that it was just a joke. However, I must agree with him that the response for Saliahn was just way out of control, and a considerably worse comment. How can you feel that his comment was so inappropriate but your comment was ‘OK’. I think that some deep soul searching is necessary. Also, Steve P, Bill’s comment was inappropriate but you think that Siliahn’s vulger is appropriate? I guess that you create your own morality, which appears in serveral of your prior posts that I have seen here, but did not comment, although I disagreed.

God has blessed the heart of this little girl with innocence.

  • lizzy // February 16, 2008 at 8:50 pm

i really feel sorry for this little girl bless her its such a shame to see these things happen to innocent children and there is alchoholics and druggies who dont care about anyone and they just watse their life away and then you get this poor girl wanting a normal life.Next year when i leave school i would love to be a nurse or surgeon looking after children and adults with special needs and disabilities and to me this girl is a normal little girl who people shoud leave alone and get on with thier own lifes.

  • SOPHIE // March 10, 2008 at 5:08 am

I THINK THAT IT IS SO UPSETTING THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO AN INOCENT GIRL WHO DIDN’T DESURVE THIS. I HOPE THE BEST FOR HER. XXXXXXXX

  • Deivid // April 17, 2008 at 10:55 am

U know what idiots? i hope that girl will die
for her own good , u think she will have a good life? i thnk no , she will suffer from other ppl.

  • cameron // May 6, 2008 at 7:04 pm

i was thinking, why do all these deformed children end up in india??? its weird how they worship 6 limbed and 2 faced goddesses, then there are kids born there like that.

  • fifthdecade // May 9, 2008 at 11:01 pm

@Cameron - perhaps because in the West we abort them or kill them or lock them away before anyone finds out about them?

@Bill - c’mon Bill, comment when you’re sober and with a little more human dignity, this poor two year old shows more dignity in her embarrassing position in the published photograph than you do in your joke about a different deformed baby. You should be careful you don’t develop a case of self-loathing (your constant references to the $3 million your practice “donates” each year is a sure sign you are unhappy with what you are doing the rest of the time).

  • Frenchie // June 20, 2008 at 12:06 pm

While I do not think the resulting comments toward Bill were appropriate either, I do not think that Bill’s joke was appropriate in any way. As for the charity work you claim to do, true charity is not used as a measure of bragging rights. I am guessing that you receive some kind of benefit from your so-called charity work in the form of tax deductions or what have you, if not at the very least slinging it around as a right to be insensitive with a “clear conscience”. As for Deivid, you have no grasp of reality or common sense. God bless this little girl, her surgery was successful and she is recovering quite well.

  • Bill // June 21, 2008 at 5:09 pm

It’s funny how an off color joke that has nothing to do with this poor little girl or her family, has made a few self righteous assholes feel entitled to be nasty dickheads. Of course Fifth, we all know you as at know-it-all self righteous dickhead anyway. You can’t even read you stupid fuck. The comment was not about a baby, but the mother, and it was obvious. So are are an idiot as well. Well, from the bottom of my heart, I want you all to go fuck yourselves. Obviously mankind is not worth helping.

  • Z // June 24, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Well I am 11 and I think this girl has as much right to live as any other human being I mean you saying she should die it is simply inhuman and the way you said the human race is not worth saving well it is because of people like you I understand a joke but that was not funny I think it is great that the family embraces the fact there children was born with more limbs than other children but since this is not about bitching my best wishes to Lakshmi.
    Singed off Z.

  • Rj // June 26, 2008 at 7:16 am

Yo that’s sad and then all thoes indian ppl all roud hoe talk bout she they god just leave her a long damn think bou how she feel …555

  • Anonymous // June 28, 2008 at 9:41 am

Z, first of all I NEVER even mention a single ill word about this child or her family or any one else here, other than Fifth [ a self righteous asshole who needs to criticize and belittle others to make himself feel better about himself. Just go to his blog], and certainly never said that she should die, [Deivid said it]. Secondly, I do not think that it is proper for an 11 yr old to use such language as ‘bitching’ and should not be reading blogs of this content on the web. Your parents have failed, and you are destined to become a terrible person. Also, since no single person was harmed by the joke, it was wrong for anyone to feel entitled to post such venomous remarks, but that’s how you people are, rude. I guarantee that none of you would be stupid enough to say it to my face. And Z, don’t read this part as you are too young [but I think you are a liar]…..

Go fuck yourself to all, then go fuck yourself again. If you feel the need to post hurtful comments to someone that never even harmed you or anyone else, then it is YOU that need psychological help, and if you reread you own comment, then compare it to my joke, you’ll see that the real cruel asshole is YOU.

    Fuck you very much,

    regards,

    Bill
